MARAVIROC   What is maraviroc (Selzentry). Maraviroc is a medication used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in both children and adults. It works by binding to a receptor on HIV, prohibiting it from entering the cells [1]. Maraviroc is not a stand-alone treatment and must be used in combination with other HIV medications.   How does the use of maraviroc relate to long-COVID. For patients with long-COVID, treatment options are limited and undefined.

How it works:

Selective antagonist between CCR5 and HIV-1 gp120

Dosage Form: Tablet Tablet - 150mg, 300mg , Oral solution - 20mg/mL

Common Usage: HIV-1 Infection

Precautions:

Pregnancy

Limited data on the use of maraviroc during pregnancy from the APR and case reports are not sufficient to inform a drug-associated risk of birth defects and miscarriage

Lactation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that HIV-1-infected mothers in the United States not breastfeed their infants to avoid risking postnatal transmission of HIV-1 infection

Warnings

Black Box Warning: Hepatotoxicity, systemic allergic reaction , Contraindicated: severe renal impairment or ESRD with concomitant CYP3A inducers or inhibitors , Warnings: Preexisting liver dysfunction, co-infection with Hepatitis B or C, cardiovascular events, hypersensitivity
