Decreases liver uptake of free fatty acids, inhibits secretion of VLDL, inhibits peripheral lipolysis
Pregnancy
In patients who are pregnant who develop severe hypertriglyceridemia and are at risk for pancreatitis, use of fenofibrate beginning in the second trimester is one intervention that may be considered
Lactation
Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in the breastfed infant (such as disrupting lipid metabolism), breastfeeding is contraindicated by the manufacturer
Warnings
Contraindicated: Hypersensitivity, active liver disease, pre-existing gallbladder disease, severe kidney impairment, breastfeeding, persistent liver function abnormalities ; Warnings: Cholelithiasis, pancreatitis, venous thromboembolism (VTE), hematologic effects, paradoxical HDL decrease
