Flavonoids
How it works:
Flavonoids’ actions in the body can be classified as immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory. Severe cases of COVID-19 involve a cytokine storm, which is an overreactive immune response. Inhibiting the cytokine storm is integral to treatment of these severe COVID-19 patients, as well as dealing with the aftermath in Long COVID patients. Luteolin is one flavonoid that can reduce the number of immune cells, and in one mouse study, it was found to decrease inflammation in a mouse model of inflamed airway. Flavonoid-rich foods can serve as a buffer against COVID-19 in obese patients, whose adipose tissues in the lung are more susceptible to the disease. Flavonoids are very safe and well-tolerated, owing to the fact that they come from foods we eat normally.
