Gabapentin
Overview
GABAPENTIN What is gabapentin. Gabapentin is a medication that mimics gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the body. GABA is responsible for inhibiting neurons that produce an excitatory signal. In pain or seizures, neurons constantly fire, inducing an excitatory response. GABA works to calm these neurons and return them to normalcy. Gabapentin is commonly used for neuropathy (nerve pain) and those affected with partial seizures.

How it works:
Unknown, has high affinity for a subset of calcium channels
Dosage Form: Tablet Tablet - 300mg, 600mg, 800mg , Capsule - 100mg, 300mg, 400mg , Oral solution - 250mg/5mL
Common Usage: Neuropathic pain (nerve pain), partial seizures
Precautions:
Pregnancy
Gabapentin is not generally recommended in pregnancy as there is not enough information about whether it's safe for the fetus
Lactation
According to the manufacturer, the decision to breastfeed during therapy should consider the risk of infant exposure, the benefits of breastfeeding to the infant, and benefits of treatment to the mother. Based on limited data, gabapentin is considered relatively compatible with breastfeeding; infants should be monitored for drowsiness, adequate weight gain, and developmental milestones
Warnings
Contraindicated: Hypersensitivity ; Warnings: May exacerbate myasthenia gravis, caution with renal impairment and substance abuse problems
