Overview

METOPROLOL   What is metoprolol. Metoprolol, a class of medication called beta blockers, is used to treat heart conditions in patients. Beta-blockers work by acting on the beta receptors in the heart, blocking its action and resulting in a decrease in blood pressure. Metoprolol is referred to as a cardioselective beta blocker; its effects are mostly seen within the heart and not in the other areas of the body.     What is the link between metoprolol and long-COVID. Recent research has shown that this class of medications may be helpful for those suffering with symptoms of long-COVID.

Lactation

The manufacturer recommends monitoring the breastfed infant for adverse events such as bradycardia; constipation; diarrhea; and dry mouth, skin, or eyes when metoprolol is administered to a mother who is a slow metabolizer. Use of a beta-blocker other than metoprolol may be preferred in lactating patients
