How it works
Troxerutin’s diverse health effects come from its role as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and anti-clotting substance. It is also protective of the nervous system and kidneys. As an antioxidant, troxerutin works by scavenging free radicals in the body, Some of its antioxidant functions come from its ability to enhance the activity of other antioxidants, such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase. Troxerutin helps epithelial cells, connective tissue, and white blood cells escape cell death resulting from oxidative stress. Troxerutin also helps protect the kidneys and the brain’s hippocampus from stress-induced damage. In animal studies, troxerutin inhibited obesity and normalized high blood sugar, and improved lipid (fat) balance in the liver by protecting against NAD+ depletion, thereby also reducing inflammation by promoting healthy NAD+ levels.
